IRLZ44 gate drive

I frequently claim that driving the gate of an IRLZ44N MOSFET from a processor pin is under-engineered.

Actually: it works very well, as long as the processor (i.e. an Atmel ATMEGA8) has a stable 5V power supply and the switching frequency is not too high. Otherwise it is advisable to drive the gate to a higher voltage.
